At SlangSphere (“we,” “our,” “us”), accessible at https://www.slangsphere.com/, one of our main priorities is protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using our website and related services (the “Service”), you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1) Who we are & how to contact us
Controller: SlangSphere
Email: [email protected]
If you have questions about this Policy or our data practices, contact us at the email above.
2) Scope of this Policy
This Policy covers data collected via:
- our website at slangsphere.com (and subpages),
- our content tools/features (e.g., vocabulary libraries, submissions),
- integrations we use to distribute content (e.g., TikTok for Developers, embeds, analytics, and advertising such as Google AdSense).
3) Information we collect
3.1 Information you provide directly
- Contact details (e.g., name, email, message content) when you contact us.
- Account details if you register or subscribe (if available): name, email, password (hashed).
- User submissions (e.g., slang terms, definitions, examples, comments).
- Support requests and any files you send us.
3.2 Information collected automatically
When you visit the Service, we automatically collect:
- Device/usage data: IP address, approximate location (country/region), device and browser type, operating system, language, referring/exit pages, URLs visited, timestamps, and events (page views, clicks).
- Cookies and similar technologies: small files placed on your device for essential functionality, analytics, and advertising (see Section 7).
3.3 Data from integrations (TikTok, analytics, ads)
- TikTok for Developers (if you connect): TikTok account handle, user ID, granted scopes, and OAuth tokens (access/refresh) necessary to upload/publish videos to the authenticated account; video identifiers (e.g., video_id), captions/metadata you provide through our tool.
- Analytics (e.g., Google Analytics or similar): aggregated traffic metrics.
- Advertising (Google AdSense): ad request data (see Section 8). We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal data.
4) How we use information
We use information to:
- operate and improve the Service (deliver pages, features, and content);
- publish our educational content to platforms you connect (e.g., upload/post videos to TikTok after you authorize via OAuth);
- provide support and respond to inquiries;
- measure performance (analytics), debug, and secure the Service;
- deliver, measure, and improve advertising (AdSense), including personalized ads where legally permitted and consented;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
5) Legal bases (GDPR/EEA)
Where applicable, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract (providing requested features/services you use);
- Legitimate interests (running, securing, improving our Service; preventing fraud/abuse; non-personalized analytics/ads);
- Consent (cookies, analytics, and personalized advertising in EEA/UK; connecting your TikTok account via OAuth);
- Legal obligations (bookkeeping, compliance).
You can withdraw consent anytime (e.g., via our cookie banner or by disconnecting TikTok).
6) How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers (hosting, security, analytics, email, customer support) under confidentiality agreements;
- Advertising partners (Google AdSense) and analytics providers to deliver and measure ads/traffic;
- TikTok, only if you explicitly connect your TikTok account, to upload/publish content per your authorization;
- Authorities where required by law, and potential buyers in case of a business transfer (with protections).
7) Cookies & similar technologies
We use:
- Strictly necessary cookies for core functionality and security;
- Analytics cookies to understand usage (aggregated);
- Advertising cookies for AdSense (personalized or non-personalized depending on your settings and region).
In EEA/UK, we show a cookie consent banner. You can accept/decline categories (e.g., analytics, personalized ads). You can also manage cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect site functionality.
8) Advertising (Google AdSense)
We display ads via Google AdSense and, at times, other ad partners.
- Personalized vs. non-personalized ads: In regions requiring consent (EEA/UK), we request your consent for personalized ads. If you decline, we show non-personalized (contextual) ads that may still use limited data for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, and fraud prevention.
- Data processed by AdSense may include IP address, approximate location, device/browser data, cookie or ad identifiers, page URL, and basic interaction data to deliver, measure, and improve ads and to fight fraud/abuse.
- Your choices: Use our cookie banner, your browser/device settings, and Google’s Ad Settings to manage ad preferences.
9) TikTok integration & your choices
If you choose to connect a TikTok account in our tool:
- we receive OAuth tokens and limited account data (handle, user ID, scopes) to upload and/or publish videos to the authenticated account;
- tokens are stored encrypted and used only for posting as instructed;
- you can disconnect/revoke access any time in our app or via TikTok → Settings → Security → Manage app permissions;
- upon revocation, we stop posting and delete related tokens from our systems within a reasonable timeframe.
We do not allow third-party users to post via our app unless explicitly authorized; we only act on accounts you connect and control.
10) Data retention
We keep data only as long as necessary for the purposes in this Policy:
- Contact/support records: typically up to 24 months after last interaction (unless law requires longer).
- Web server logs: typically 30–365 days for security and diagnostics.
- TikTok OAuth tokens: until you revoke access or tokens expire; then we delete them.
- Analytics/ads data: per provider defaults (aggregated/anonymous where possible).
We may retain limited information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
11) Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data (e.g., HTTPS, access controls, encryption in transit; tokens encrypted at rest). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
12) International transfers
If we transfer data outside your country (e.g., to the United States), we use appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent, and ensure providers offer adequate protection.
13) Your rights & choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- access, correct, or delete your personal data;
- object to or restrict processing;
- withdraw consent (e.g., cookies, TikTok connection);
- data portability (copy of your data).
To exercise rights, contact [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity. EU/EEA residents can lodge a complaint with the ANSPDCP (Romania) or your local data protection authority.
US state privacy (summary)
Where applicable (e.g., CA/VA/CO/CT/UT), you may have additional rights to access/delete/opt-out of certain processing. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by these laws. You can contact us to exercise rights.
14) Children’s privacy
Our Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
15) Third-party links and embeds
Our Service may link to or embed third-party content (e.g., YouTube, social platforms). Those sites operate under their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.
16) Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective means you accept the updated Policy.
